Core advantages

A converter that keeps the structure other tools throw away

Most tools flatten a question paper into one block of text and leave the answer key stranded at the end. ExamParser reads each question's number, stem, options and correct answer as one unit, so the answer travels inside the question and every destination gets a file it will actually accept. It handles the question types teachers actually use — single choice (MC), multiple choice (MR), true/false and essay — and keeps each answer in its own field, so nothing gets lost in translation. That is exactly what lets you convert Word, PDF & Docs to a Canvas Quiz without losing a single option or its answer key.

Any exam format

Word .docx, PDF and even scanned past papers all import — no manual cleanup beforehand.

No question limit

A whole paper is parsed in one pass — dozens or thousands of questions, with no truncation or errors from size.

Every question type

Single choice, multiple response, true/false, cloze and essay are all recognized and labelled in the preview.

Images, tables & formulas kept

Diagrams, data tables and math formulas in the stem are preserved intact — no broken structure, no garbled text.

Multilingual

Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean, German and more — even mixed in one file — are all handled.

From Word straight to Moodle

One parse exports to Moodle GIFT, QTI 2.1, XML, Excel and CSV — drop the file right into your question bank.

Moodle

Convert Word, PDF & Docs to a Moodle Quiz, then drop it straight into Moodle — GIFT or QTI, no reformatting

ExamParser turns a paper into one structured row per question — for example MC,,5,Q20,5,a,b,c,d,e — and converts that same data into a Moodle-ready GIFT, QTI 2.1 or XML package. Each question, its options and its correct answer land in your question bank as one unit — no manual fixing, no copy-paste. Want to tidy things up yourself first? The CSV and Excel exports ship alongside, so you can edit, reorder or merge questions in any spreadsheet before importing.

1

Upload the paper

.docx, PDF or a scanned past paper. The parser reads the number, stem, options and the correct answer for every question.

2

Check the parsed grid

Every question becomes a row. Fix anything in place — edits flow into every export.

3

Download the GIFT / QTI file

One file per job — a GIFT .txt, QTI 2.1 or Moodle XML — containing every question.

4

Import in Moodle

Question bank → Import → choose GIFT .txt or Moodle XML / QTI → pick a category. Done.

Preserved

What ExamParser keeps from your document

Every part of a question stays attached to that question — number, stem, options and answer never drift apart. Beyond plain text, ExamParser also carries over images, tables and math formulas whenever the export format can hold them.

#

Question number

The original numbering of each item is kept, so order matches your source exactly.

Q

Question stem

The full prompt is extracted as one block, including bold text, bullets and inline formatting.

A–E

Options

Every choice is captured in order — whether there are two options or twenty.

✓

Answer key

The correct answer travels inside the question and is mapped to the right response in every export.

IMG

Images

Diagrams, graphs and figures stay embedded — written into formats that support media (Moodle, Canvas QTI, Word).

TBL

Tables

Tabular data is kept as a real table where the format allows, instead of being flattened into one line.

∑

Math formulas

Equations are preserved as MathML / LaTeX so they render in Moodle, Canvas QTI and Word — not as broken images.

Written only where the format allows. Moodle (GIFT / XML / QTI), Canvas QTI and Word (.docx) keep images, tables and math formulas. CSV and plain Excel keep the text — numbers, stems, options and answers — but cannot carry media or equations.

FAQ

Questions people ask before they convert

Do I need to create an account to convert a file?

No. ExamParser runs without a login. Drop a file in, pick the destination and download the result. An account is optional and only used to keep past conversions in one place.

How do I convert a Word document into a Moodle quiz?

To convert Word, PDF & Docs to a Moodle Quiz: upload the file, choose Moodle as the destination, and ExamParser writes each question into number, stem, options and answer fields, then packages them as a Moodle GIFT, QTI 2.1 or XML file. In Moodle go to Question bank, Import, and select the GIFT .txt or QTI / XML file.

Which question types are supported?

Multiple choice, multiple answer, true or false, matching, fill in the blank, short answer and essay. Export support depends on the destination, because each platform accepts only a subset of these types.

Is the answer kept with each question?

Yes. The correct answer is stored in the same row as its question — number, stem, options and answer together — never as a separate answer key at the end. Every destination receives each question with its answer already attached.

Can I convert a past paper that only exists on paper?

Yes. Scanned pages and photographs go through OCR before parsing, so printed past papers can be turned into an editable question bank.

Do you keep my question papers?

Uploads are used for the single conversion job only. Unpublished exam material is never reused, never resold and never used to train models.

How is pricing calculated?

You pay a single one-time price based on how many questions your file contains — not per question. Plans: up to 50 questions $5.9, up to 1,000 $19.9 (most popular), up to 5,000 $59, and 5,000+ $79. Upload and preview are always free; you only pay when you download.
